American actor of televison, screen & stage, writer, teacher, director and Walk Of Famer Walter Koenig (September 14, 1936). He has a star on the HOLLYWOOD Walk Of Fame in the Television Category.
American Birthday boy Walter Koenig gained world recognition for his supporting role as Ensign Pavel Chekov due to the mid 1960's breakout phenomenon known as Star Trek: The Original Series (1967–1969). For the record Jeffrey Hunter plated Captain Christopher Pike in the original 1965 pilot.
So what's the origin of the Vulcan salute?
The Vulcan hand sign is now known throughout the world thanks to Walter's fellow Star Trek co-star & Walk Of Famer/Sat anist Lenord Nimoy, better known as Mr. Spock. It is actually the physical representation of the Hebrew letter “shin,” (and looks like a W) and comes from a Je wish prayer ceremony Nimoy remembered witnessing as a child growing up in Boston with Yiddish-speaking grandparents. Nimoy participated in the Shekhinah, a prayer meant to bless a congregation as the "female" aspect of God comes in to bless those present. Thanks to Jonathan (kleckfiles.com), we know that the Father GOD EL is male energy. And so we have Sat an, the female energy rival, disguising himself, yet again, right there in the ancient religion and it is by no mistake that Sat an would use the symbology to further t rick and ind octrinate the ma sses via a seemingly peaceful hand sign and an accompanying "feel good" catch phrase "Live long and prosper".
As Nimoy wrote on the official Star Trek blog a few years ago, “The light from this Deity could be very damaging. So we are told to protect ourselves by closing our eyes. I peeked. And when I saw the split-fingered gesture of these men… I was entranced. I learned to do it simply because it seemed so magical. It was probably 25 years later that I introduced that gesture as a Vulcan greeting in Star Trek and it has resonated with fans around the world ever since. It gives me great pleasure since it is, after all, a blessing.”
